How to earn Strange Coins
Completing activities like Crucible, Vanguard, and etc. drops Strange Coins (once we learn more, we will provide more details).
What is the Strange Favor buff and how does it work?
After spending 47 Strange Coins, Xur grants you access to Strange Favor, a buff offering a chance for bonus coins with each earned one. You can obtain one per week, lasting 11 days, and stack up to three.
Rank-Up System
Xur has a rank up system like other vendors. Spending Strange Coins on Xur’s items will increase your rank. Every rank reset grants an Exotic Cipher (this does not replace the Xenology quest).

“TWID” Highlights

Raid and Dungeon Update
Here’s a look changes coming to incoming and outgoing damage in raids and dungeons in the Final Shape.
% CHANGE IN THE FINAL SHAPE
Damage Source | Power Cap | Raids | Dungeons |
Outgoing | -5 | -33% | +2% |
Outgoing + surge | -5 | -15% | +28% |
Incoming | -5 | +32% | +17% |
Incoming | +15 | +3% | -8% |
“We have decided to remove surges from raids and dungeons in next week’s update, as well as to adjust tuning so that you’ll perform as if you had them across the board. This means the damage bonus will now be applied to all subclass damage types, including Kinetic, by default. This change will make outgoing damage in dungeons higher and reduce the difference in raids compared to before The Final Shape. It does so while removing barriers to buildcrafting. We’ll continue to monitor feedback and see how this update plays out for everyone.”
GM Modes Incoming
Grandmaster difficulty arrives next week for both Salvation’s Edge raid and Nightfall. First up for Grandmaster Nightfall will be The Glassway.

The Final Shape Power Level
Power Level Changes
The Power system has been updated in The Final Shape to make it more intuitive and approachable. Here’s the goals they had in mind:
- Power offers a meaningful progression that rewards players with a real sense of getting stronger.
- Destiny 2 is a game you can always play with your friends, regardless of your Power level.
- Lower the barrier to entry for Destiny 2’s story content.
- Power should be intuitive and understandable, both for experienced and new players alike.
Now for a look at the changes.
Power Bands
In The Final Shape, the Soft Cap will only require 40 Power to reach (down from the usual 150).
- Power Floor: 1900
- Soft Cap: 1940
- Powerful Cap: 1990
- Hard Cap/Pinnacle Cap: 2000
Note: Like past the campaign in Lightfall and The Witch Queen, all players who complete The Final Shape campaign on Legendary difficulty will be rewarded with a full gear set at 1960 Power (+20 into the Powerful band). Contest mode for The Final Shape will be at 1965 so this helps get you raid-ready!
Fireteam Power
- The player with the highest Power becomes the “Power Leader,” boosting others’ power within five points below theirs, unless already higher.
- Fireteam Power affects activity difficulty, while your base Power level determines rewards.
- As the Power Leader, you get a commendation boost post-activity.
Image via Bungie (Your Power level will now be displayed next to the Activity Power Cap, right by the launch button, so you can easily determine how difficult the activity will feel.)
Unsunsetted
- Power limits have been completely removed from all items.
Activity Power
In The Final Shape, activities will be split into two categories: Power Disabled and Power Enabled.
- Power Disabled activities play the same for everyone, no matter their Power level.
- Power Enabled activities, by comparison, are where you grow stronger by improving your Power. These each have an Activity Power Cap, or a Power level at which you will have achieved maximum effectiveness.
NOTE: Gameplay tuning in existing high-difficulty content remains unchanged.
Every Power Enabled activity falls into one of five difficulty tiers or one unique mode:
Difficulty Tier | Activity Power Cap | How to Master | Example Activities |
---|---|---|---|
Standard | 1945 | Focus on growing your Power level to the Powerful and Pinnacle caps. | Vanguard Ops, Seasonal activities, Exotic missions, raids, and dungeons |
Advanced (Previously Hero) | 1995 | Optimize your individual buildcrafting for Nightfall-style gameplay, while still matchmaking with other players. | Nightfalls |
Expert (Previously Legend) | 2005 | Optimize your fireteam composition and rely on your ability to work together as a team. | Nightfalls, Lost Sectors, Seasonal activities, Exotic missions |
Master | 2010 | Optimize your execution, leveraging the skills built by engaging with other tiers of difficulty. | Nightfalls, Lost Sectors, raids, and dungeons |
Grandmaster | 2020 | Tie it all together and demonstrate true mastery to overcome pinnacle challenges in Destiny 2. | Nightfalls |
Contest Mode | 1965 | A unique, limited-time challenge where each raider will have to demonstrate their gameplay. In this mode, Fireteam Power will not apply. | Day-one raid |
Artifact Bonus Power
- No changes, the Seasonal Artifact will be staying the same at its core.
- The number of weeks available for Seasonal Challenges has been increased, they also will getting a buff to XP rewards.
Account-Wide Power
- Gear earned on any character will drop with a Power level relative to the highest Power character on your account.
Reward Power
“For some time now, select activities (such as ritual playlists) have had a chance of dropping a Powerful reward with +1 Power for players between the Soft Cap and the Powerful Cap. In The Final Shape, we’re extending this beyond those select activities to just about every reward source in Destiny 2!”
Changes:
- Expanding the reward system to include almost every activity in Destiny 2 for earning Powerful rewards.
- Allowing players more flexibility in their choice of activities to progress towards the Powerful Cap.
- Ensuring items purchased from vendors drop at a minimum of 3 below the player’s highest Power level.
- Adjusting reacquired items from Collections to drop at a minimum of 5 below the player’s highest Power level.
